In the end dining at David’s was a mixed bag.
Neither did the manager when I pointed this out. When I brought this to the attention of the server, he apologized, but he did not remove it from our bill.
The strawberries, in particular, tasted bad. The flan had an enjoyably silky texture, but diced fruit on top had obviously been sitting in a refrigerator for far too long. The only thing it was lacking was pineapple, as the cake dominated the dessert. The pineapple upside-down had an excellent coconut gelato and brandied cherries. The chocolate tart was rich and chocolate-y, but it was topped with a lot of non-dairy whipped topping. The short ribs also came out dry and overcooked, though they had a delicious flavor and the kimchi rice served with them was very nice.Īlthough we were all stuffed, we made room for three of the desserts: the chocolate bourbon pecan tart ($9), the tropical flan ($9) and the pineapple upside-down cake ($9). The fried chicken sandwich was huge and crispy but a little dry. The shrimp and grits were perfectly cooked, with salty pops of Tasso ham and big pieces of shrimp that everyone enjoyed.
The other three mains were the shrimp and grits ($18), the fried chicken sandwich ($14) and the Korean barbecue short ribs ($32). David's at Live! Casino Hotel is featured in the Dining Out review.
